The Carpa Virtus ("the Hand of Valor") is the highest honour available to a lamplighter. Aubergene Wellesley received the Carpa Virtus in recognition of his deeds in helping rescue the middle daughter of the Warden-General of Haltmire from monsters in the Ichormeer in the early HIR 1590s.
Trivia[]
The name appears to be derived from the Latin words carpe and virtus, which together translate as "enjoy the power of". Virtus specifically was a virtue in Ancient Rome. It carries connotations of valor, manliness, excellence, courage, character, and worth, perceived as masculine strengths. It was thus a frequently stated virtue of Roman emperors, and was personified as the deity Virtus.
