An equiteer (pronounced "eh-kwit-tear") is a cavalryman. The use of cavalry and horses in general outside of cities is limited by the threat posed by monsters. This necessitates a great deal of protection for cavalry if they need to move about the country, thus most armies of the Half-Continent are primarily composed of pediteers or infantry.

Equiteers use the following specialized equipment:

  • Equiteer boots: Bright-black leather boots that reach up to the knees. Europe favours these kinds of boots as footwear.
  • Lorica: A proof-steel breastplate that protects the torso. Used by the few heavy equiteer regiments found in the Half-Continent and as well as by troubardiers.
  • Soulettes: Shoe-proofing that is strapped over the arch and ankle of the foot for extra protection. Also used by civilian riders.

The term appears to be derived from equus, a genus of animals in the family Equidae that includes horses, donkeys, and zebras.
