The Gott Empire, also known as the Gottskylds or the Gottlands, is an empire located in the southeastern portion of the Half-Continent. The veteran lamplighter Puttinger originates from here.
Geography[]
The empire is separated from the Haacobin Empire to the west by the semi-independent states of Flint and Burgundis, the Ichormeer, and the Vlinderwood. It extends north to the Basket and to the vinegar seas south and east. Within those boundaries only a region known as Despond is not considered part of the Empire.
Wörms and Frissia are notable Gott cities, built by the Skylds. The best skolds and Rhubezals come from the rhombuses there.
Government[]
The empire is ruled by the Sigismündian Dynasty and like its northern rival, is composed of various states ("kingdoms, duchies and the like") which are bound to it by treaty. It is not known who the current emperor or empress is. There have been occasional conflicts with Haacobins, but none to the gain of either side.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
The Gott Empire is not referred to as such in the Monster Blood Tattoo trilogy and is mentioned as the Gottskylds in explicariums. D. M. Cornish also referred to it as the Gottlands in a blog post in September 2008.[1] A year later he referred to it as the Gott Empire when describing a map of the Harthe Alle[2] and confirmed its actual boundaries with a coloured version of the Half-Continent map in March 2012.[3]
