Greenleaf Whit is a Brandenard composer who has emulated the lively style of Stumphelhose from the previous century in a spite of a growing preference among the gentry for more somber and regal music. It thus easy to confuse the two composers.[1]

His name may be a reference to either John Greenleaf Whittier, a 19th century American poet, or Greenleaf Whittier Pickard, a 20th century American radio pioneer, who was named after the poet, his great-uncle.
