Wormstool is the last cothouse on the Conduit Vermis before an eastbound traveller reached Haltmire and the Ichormeer. Those stationed here were called "Stoolers". Due to its dangerous location at the "ignoble end of the road" as part of the Frugelle, only seasoned lamplighters were typically assigned to this billet. Nonetheless, Rossamünd Bookchild was deliberately billeted here as was Threnody, who lobbied to join him. They both served at Wormstool for a few months before a concentrated monster attack resulted in the fall of the cothouse and severely damaged it. It was subsequently abandonned, cutting Haltmire off.
Design
Edit
The cothouse itself was built in the form of an octagonal tower with external steps wrapping around its base to an elevated door, much like the linches of Bleak Lynche. Of all the Wormway cothouses only the Dovecote Bolt shared this peculiar design. It had a solid stone outbuilding which housed a run-down flat cart that was drawn by the donkey Cuniculus, who was kept inside the cothouse in the cellar.
Wormstool had four levels, each of which had loopholes from which to fire at attackers. The roof was dubbed the Fighting Top and allowed a 360 degree view of the surroundings.
History
Edit
Wormstool was built at the same time as Haltmire during the construction of the Conduit Vermis through the Ichormeer. Like many cothouses it was undermanned and its inhabitants were under constant threat of monster attack.

A male donkey named Cuniculus and a pack of spangled whelp-hounds were also kept at Wormstool. Ironically the dogs were killed during the battle but Cuniculus survived, as he was not involved in the fighting. He was later taken back to Bleakhall.
